December 8, 2022 - January 8, 2023
Boston Globe highlights the work of Steven Edson in Griffin Solstice Review:
Winchester, MA: Photography Review
By Mark Feeney Globe Staff, December 16, 2022
“Winter Solstice 2022,” the Griffin Museum of Photography’s members’ show, is really big. It has work from some 170 photographers. The show runs through Jan. 8, as do the three others currently at the Griffin.
The beauty of “Solstice” is the variety of “Solstice.” Well, that and the beauty of many of the individual images. There are some general observations that can be made, though. Color predominates, albeit there’s a fair amount of black-and-white. Steven Edson’s “NYC, NY” is a particularly vibrant example of the former.
Landscape and still life are the most popular genres, with few portraits. Representation is the rule, though a few exceptions flirt with abstraction. Or embrace geometry........................................
moreSelected for: Forged in Isolation
Steven Edson's photograph, Surface Tensions was selected to be shown in Forged in Isolation show. From the write-up on the show: 2020 disrupted our daily lives and left us to navigate feelings of loneliness and confinement. As artists, this was exceptionally challenging taking a toll on our mental health while our resolve to create waned. As time passed, the constraints of life under lockdown eased up for some, and we began to venture forward. Artists in this exhibit pay tribute to their determination to overcome a challenging situation through art.
Forged in Isolation is on view from November 4, 2022, through January 4, 2023. The library is open Monday-Wednesday 10-6, Thursday 12-8, and Friday 9-5, and Saturday 9-2 (closed Sundays). The exhibition space is located on the lower level.

The articulate composition, color, and subject make this photograph remarkable."

morePerception / Abstraction : Steve Edson and Fern Nesson
March 20, 2020 - May 29, 2020
Pleased to announce a 2 person photography show at Beacon Gallery. Perception Abstraction is a two-artist show featuring works by Boston-based photographers Steven Edson and Fern L. Nesson. This photography exhibition seeks to explore these two artists’ diverse methods of looking through the viewfinder and electing what to capture on film, and how both create abstract artwork from the real-world viewfinder. From the mundane to the sublime, Edson and Nesson train their lenses on subjects familiar to all yet capture them in a way that allows for a new perspective and appreciation; revealing the artistry and beauty that surrounds us every day.
Together, these two artists bring to life a unique perspective on the world, inviting the viewer to take a second look at the world and to see the ways in which photography can become abstract artwork. Nesson and Edson capture the elegance and beauty of the quotidian: both in what the naked eye and only the camera can see.
