Altered States
Altered States
Where everything seems almost normal and nothing ever appears as it was.
These images explore the impact of time and memory and how we remember and piece together specific aspects of our past. In this portfolio of images, reality is presented as familiar yet foreign. An image or a group of images are more akin to our dreaming state of mind where our sense of reality has become jumbled and rearranged in ways we barely recognize and yet we continue to grasp for clarity.
In the 1970s, I would spend hundreds of hours working using print magazines as source material for my collages. I would use a medical scalpel knife to do my cuttings. This current series of images return me full circle back to collaging but using my own images that I have photographed for the source images.
