We struggle against the cosmic powers of light and darkness. A battle against spiritual forces of evil in the celestial realms. It is necessary to learn to navigate between the darkness and the light in order to live.

In this series of photographs, Where the Gods Come and Go, the sand is my paint, and the tides are my brushes. I explore the convergence of different types of minerals including quartz, magnetite, ilmenite, hematite and various colors and tonalities of the sand where waves and tides continually transform the beach revealing surreal forms and designs into other dimensions of reality. What is essentially a monotone palette, by distilling these images even further into black and white photographs adds to the poetry and starkness of these transient moments revealing astrological landscapes, bold graphic abstractions and even mythological creatures.

Like many of my images that are made in diverse environments, it is easy to walk past these details without noticing the subtlety and fascinating characteristics that make up our environments.

It is considered by many that it is darkest before dawn. This can be a metaphor of the psychological state of the human mind or possibly refers to the actual rotation of the globe and its positioning in bringing sunlight to a new day. Every six hours there is an alternating high tide followed six hours later by a low tide. Each of these tides bring miles of new possibilities.
